AFCAT, NDA and CDS are the top-level defence exams that are conducted in India. Candidates who have passed their class 12th can apply for NDA exam while those who have passed their graduation can apply for CDS and AFCAT exams. CDS and NDA exams are a gateway to join any of the three defence forces of India, i.e. Army, Navy and Indian Air Force. The UPSC conducts the national-level examination known as the National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam two times in a year. The first phase is known as NDA 1 while the 2nd phase is known as NDA 2 exam. Candidates who have passed their class 12th or are appearing for their 12th exam are eligible to apply for NDA exam provided they fulfil the age limit. CDS is also a national level defence exam which is again conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Like NDA exam, CDS exam is also conducted biannually. The Indian Air Force conducts the AFCAT exam. The candidates are selected for the post of Flying Officers, Officers in Ground Duty – Technical Post, and Officers in Ground Duty -Non-Technical Post. This exam is conducted two times in a year, once in February and the other in August.
